What a planning call gets you

  • The program checklist

Which rebate and loan steps apply to your house, in the order they happen.

  • An out-of-pocket picture

Price, expected rebate and possible loan amount set side by side before you commit.

  • Forms off your list

Rebate paperwork, the loan authorization form and lender documents prepared for you.

  • A backup plan that fits

Whether the old boiler leaves, gets disconnected or stays on smart controls.

  • Questions answered plainly

What each program asks for and what it does not, with no sales script.

Which Piece of the Project Do You Need?

Is the goal a whole-house switch, one chilly room, or simply figuring out what Mass Save will cover? Each service below handles one slice. Most budgets end up drawing on a few of them at once.

How Does the Project Move From Idea to Installed?

  1. Start with a planning call

We talk through the house, the fuel bill you are tired of, your utility account and what you would like to spend. Then we check rebate and HEAT Loan requirements and line up the Home Energy Assessment if the house still needs one.

  2. Count the heat

On the visit we tally each room's needs, peek at attic and wall insulation and note what the boiler or furnace has been doing. That tally sets the equipment, so no dollars go to capacity that would sit unused.

  3. Put the money on paper

A written proposal lists the equipment, the price, the rebate we estimate and the loan amount you could request. If financing makes sense, the HEAT Loan paperwork starts with a lender in the program, who makes the approval call.

  4. Install, test and close out

Units mounted inside and out, lines capped, controls wired and the old boiler treated exactly as the proposal says. Next come startup checks, a lesson on each control and the closing rebate and loan filings.

Why Do Budget-Minded Owners Plan With Us?

A heat pump project has three places where money leaks: the rebate you missed, the loan step done out of order and the old boiler handled in a way the program will not accept. We plan around all three.

  • The old system handled by the rules

Zones the heat pump fully covers lose their old boiler or furnace, which comes out or gets disconnected. Rather keep it around? Integrated controls lean on the heat pump and only hand off during deep cold. Whichever you pick, the arrangement matches program rules, keeping your rebate intact.

  • The numbers before the work

You see the price, the rebate estimate, the loan amount and what remains for you to cover, all in writing before anyone shows up with tools. If a figure depends on the program or the lender, the proposal says so in plain words.

  • Paperwork carried for you

Rebate claims, the loan's program form and each lender request get drafted at our desk, not yours. You sign where a signature is needed, and we keep track of what is due next.

Where Do We Install Around Winchester?

Winchester's housing leans old and solid: colonials, Victorians and capes on leafy streets, many still heated by an oil boiler or a gas system with decades on it. The Middlesex Fells runs along the east side of town and the Mystic Lakes along the south, and the same mix of older homes continues into Woburn, Arlington, Medford, Stoneham and Lexington. Most of these towns buy power from a Mass Save utility. Reading, Wakefield and Belmont are the exceptions, with municipal light plants that run rebate programs of their own, and we sort that out on the call.

Older houses, honest sizing

Big colonials with drafty third floors and capes with cold knee walls need a real heat loss count, not a guess based on square footage.

The program depends on the utility

Mass Save in most towns here, a light plant program in a few. We check your electric and gas accounts before estimating anything.

What Would Your Heat Pump Actually Cost You?

The sticker price is only the start. Subtract the rebate your house can qualify for, look at whether the 0% HEAT Loan fits, and the out-of-pocket number can look very different. Let's work it out for your home.

What Do Winchester Homeowners Ask Before Switching?

The program questions that come up on nearly every planning call, answered short.

Will I have to insulate before the rebate kicks in?

For the whole-home rebate, usually yes. Mass Save wants the weatherization from your Home Energy Assessment report done first; that no-cost visit spells out which insulation and air sealing to tackle, and those upgrades bring sizable incentives too. Partial-home setups follow different rules, and we explain which path your house is on.

How is a whole-home system different from a partial one?

A whole-home system heats the entire house through winter without leaning on the old boiler as the main source. Partial-home covers some zones while the existing system keeps the rest. The whole-home rebate is the larger one, paid per ton up to $8,500 in 2026 when its conditions are met, and partial-home rebates are smaller, so we price both.

What does the install timeline look like?

Scope drives it. One ductless zone is a much shorter job than a whole-house ducted system with the old boiler coming out. The proposal gives you the schedule for your project, and loan steps are timed so the lender is ready before work begins.

Will a heat pump keep up on a frigid January night?

A cold-climate model sized from a proper heat tally will. That class of equipment is made to keep producing warmth on the bitterest nights. Want a safety net anyway? Keep the existing boiler wired to integrated controls, which call on it only during deep cold.

Can I use these programs on a rental property I own?

Often, yes. Owners of two- to four-unit houses can plan heat pumps unit by unit, and the programs look at things like whose name is on the utility accounts and whether the home is occupied through the winter. We go over your building on the call and tell you which rebates and loan options look realistic.

What happens to the oil tank?

That follows the plan for the boiler. If the heat pump replaces the oil system for good, the old equipment is removed or disconnected, and the tank is dealt with as part of that plan. If the boiler stays as backup, the tank stays with it. The proposal spells out which applies to your house.

What is the 2026 rebate ceiling for heat pumps?

The ceiling is up to $8,500 when the whole house moves to air-source heat pumps in 2026, and the amount is calculated per ton. Conditions attach: weatherization done per the assessment, listed cold-climate units and year-round winter occupancy. Partial-home amounts run lower, and your estimate appears in the proposal.

Planners First, Installers Second

HVAC Financing Winchester was built for homeowners who want to know what a heat pump will cost them before they agree to one. We start with the programs and the math: which rebate the house can earn, whether the 0% HEAT Loan fits, what the old boiler's fate needs to be. Then we design and install a system sized to the house, and finish the paperwork so nothing is left hanging.
